Not for me still waters, it is
the ebb and flow of the tide which excites. As the waters
ebb the food rich mud is exposed and the wading birds can
feed. As the tide turns the birds move shore wards foraging at the
waters edge.
The best time to watch and
sketch is during a full moon when the tide is at
its highest and the wading birds are pushed up close
to the shoreline.
My love for the sea stems back
many years when we owned and worked a fishing boat, first in the Severn
Estuary and then in the English Channel. I find the movement
of water and wildlife fascinating and it is this vitality, light and
atmosphere that I am now trying to depict in my wildlife paintings.
